Encaustic Skyline & Spectrum
2020 - 2021
Rarely in my paintings will there be a straight line, let alone one that remotely resembles a structure. However, there is something very alluring about our crisp, angular superstructures backlit from that big sky. Capturing this skyline and abstracting it with such an organic painting medium, pigmented hot wax manipulated with fire, invites the viewer to come closer and see what is underneath. Although imagined, “Skyline” and “Spectrum” are two encaustic series marking my impression of the urban landscape.
